Between missions you can track your personnel and aircraft gains and losses. You'll probably be intercepted along the route, often by superior numbers. The basic construct is you receive a mission loosely plotted around historic weather and events you and X number of wingmen take off, fly a fairly direct circuit to the target area, and attempt to achieve the goal of the mission and fly back to base. The missions are template based so they become repetitive even for the fighters. Fighters have the most variety of mission types. The career mode campaigns are decent but mechanical and they vary by aircraft class.
